1. Prague, Cheque Republic
Christmas is the season that Prague really comes into it's own. Cobblestone streets filled with beautiful lights leading to Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square (around 5 minute from each other). There you will find the cities largest winter wonderlands. A 19m Christmas tree towers over the brightly decorated wooden huts selling everything from ornaments and souvenirs to large roasted hams and mulled wine.
2. Dresden, Germany
Considered to be the first genuine Christmas market in the world, and when I say Christmas market Dresden actually go one step further and transform into an entire Christmas village. Throughout December you will find the city filled with lights, decorations and musical performances. Great for families as there is so much to do for all ages including cookie decorating, a giant Ferris wheel or why not take a visit to see the big man himself!
3. Hong Kong
If there is one city you can rely on to big on decorations it is Hong Kong. Christmas lights dangled from skyscrapers, shopping malls filled with the most extravagant displays and Christmas music blasting from speakers all over. City Harbour is one of the most magical places to visit at this time of year it offers activities and large scale displays for the whole family to enjoy.
4. Edinburgh, Scotland
The celebrations in Scotland go on from around 6 weeks, starting from St. Andrews Day all the way through to the famous Hogmanay on New Years Eve. Edinburgh is covered in lights and decorations, the atmosphere is amazing and it is host to a beautiful Christmas market set within the shadow of the grand Edinburgh Castle. Head to the Botanic gardens and join the Winter Lights Trail for a truly magical experience.
5. London, UK
Every year London really transforms into a magical place, the lights around Oxford Street are an event in themselves, walk along the roads to marvel at the window displays of some of its famous shops like Selfridges and Hamley's, and maybe pop inside for a little Christmas shopping. The showstopper for Christmas in London is Winter Wonderland, set within Hyde Park. Jam packed with activities from ice skating to a circus, you can even try your hand at ice sculpting! At night it comes to life with live music and fairground rides it is an action packed experience.
